Miss California & The Gay Rights Thought Police
OMG! Miss California is a social conservative!
Last night, the Miss USA pageant was held -- unbeknownst to me, since all I know about pageants is what I've seen in Little Miss Sunshine. Near the end of the pageant, celebrity judge Perez Hilton was tasked with asking one question of then-frontrunner Miss California Carrie Prejean. He decided to lob a question about one of the most politically controversial issues of our time; Prejean's response may have cost her the title:
Hilton: "Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit, why or why not?"
Prejean: "Well, I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country, and in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised and that's how I think that it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you very much."
Now, most politicians don't like answering that divisive question in front of a split audience, and typically squirm while doing so. For Prejean to have the courage to (even somewhat inarticulately) frame the issue as a state-by-state choice while acknowledging her honest personal beliefs, I think, shows a lot of strength and reflects well on her character.
But the beauty pageant judges were aghast at Prejeans' lack of political correctness, and retribution was swift.
"I think it did lose her the crown," Hilton said today on MSNBC. On a webcast posted late Sunday night, he ranted against Prejean, saying, "She lost not because she doesn't believe in gay marriage; she lost because she's a dumb b****."
More from Hilton: "... [T]hat is not the kind of woman I want to be Miss USA. There's a difference between running for president and being a beauty queen.
"A president is affiliated with a political party, that political party has ideologies, they are in favor with or against. A beauty queen, a beauty pageant queen, Miss USA, should represent all Americans. And with her answer, she instantly was divisive and alienated millions of gays and lesbians, their family, their friends, and supporters."
I have a much simpler answer: Why not avoid the hot-button issue during a beauty pageant in the first place? By asking that provocative question, Hilton was giving Miss California an ultimatum: answer correctly, or risk the crown.
Hilton claims no political bias, saying, "I was not upset or frustrated with her disagreeing with me about gay marriage. I was just upset and frustrated with how she answered the question."
Um, that's essentially the same thing.
Regardless of one's personal views on the issue, and whether we agree or disagree with Prejean's opinion, it's extremely troubling to see someone answer a question honestly -- articulating a viewpoint consistent with roughly half of the voters in her home state -- only to be punished by those who disagree.
It is hypocritical to fight for freedom of speech and freedom of expression if one has no tolerance for those with opposing views, and I am deeply concerned by the gay rights movement's overall decision post-Prop 8 to begin blacklisting political opponents out of anger and vengefulness.
Let's cut out the litmus test, and leave politics in the political arena.

Listen you little flame ball. If I saw your little bitch ass on the street I would beat the shit out of you. You're the reason the fags won't get to be married. You can take cheap shots at staights all you want, but you will never be in the same class as us you fag. Aynway Carrie is hot and should have won. Obviously this was a setup because that ? has nothing to do with being a beauty queen. I hope this guy dies with a dick in his mouth. Fag.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE TOO FAR. MISS CALIFORNIA VOICES THE VIEWS OF MOST AMERICANS. I HAVE GAY FRIENDS WHO COULD CARE LESS ABOUT GETTING MARRIED. A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THE MEDIA ARE THEMSELVES IN A "BUBBLE" AND THEY ACTUALLY THINK THAT BECAUSE THEY CONTROL ENTERTAINMENT AND NEWS THAT EVERYONE IS SUPPOSE TO THINK LIKE THEM. THEY RIDICULE MARRIAGE FOR HETEROSEXUALS, AND GLORIFY IT FOR HOMOSEXUALS. CALLING THIS WOMAN A "STUPID BITCH" SHOWS HIS BIGOTRY FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT THINK LIKE HIM, AND DISCRIMINATION BASED ON HER RELIGIOUS BELIEFS. IF THE SHOE WERE ON THE OTHER FOOT AND SHE VOTED HIM DOWN BECAUSE HE BELIEVED IN GAY MARRIAGE YOU WOULD NEVER HEAR THE END OF IT. THE MEDIA DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS BECAUSE OF THE OUTRAGEOUS DISCRIMINATION LEVELED AT HER, AND 9 TO 1 MOST PEOPLE ARE ON HER SIDE AS TO HOW SHE WAS UNFAIRLY TREATED.

Hilton is a c*nt who has no business or qualifications judging a female beauty pageant in the first place, much less, framing what Miss USA's stance on the issue "should" be to properly represent America. Funny how its the diverse ones who are now attempt to dictate what diversity is all about, and it ain't allowing people to have their own opinions anymore-you have to march in lockstep with some sheepish pc crowd.

Thank you very much. I am sick and tired of hearing that marriage is defined as the union of a man and a woman. If this is true then MARRIAGE must be abolished as it is a discriminatory institution aimed to exclude TAXPAYING PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS. Instead the only unions that should be recognized by the government should be civil. ANY TWO ADULT people can then have a LEGALLY recognized union that entitles them to all the protections allowed spousal partners by law. Then if a couple want to be MARRIED they can have that ceremony performed by the clergy person of their choice. Period.

Well, if he didn't want her to honestly answer his question why the heck did he ask her in the first place?? He pointedly asked her what she thought and why she thought it, and now he says she shouldn't have brought her religion and politics into it. What an ASS!

In this country we have separation of church and state. Religious marriage is defined as between a man and a woman. A civil union performed by a justice of the peace or judge is another matter. Gay unions ? Sure why not. Gay marriage ? That is another matter. A person's religious convictions are their business and should not be asked about in the venue of a beauty pagent.

If gay people were meant to be, then gay people would be able to reproduce and have their own colonies and kind. Gay people are a choice to be weird, no its not a mental imbalance, its a choice, just because I decide to love my dog and screw him doesn't mean the law should change for me. Same thing, just because a man decides to love another man doesn't mean we change the law of nature for him. Let him go into the jungle and screw another guy until his kind dies out. We need to stand up against gays trying to negatively change our country. Be gay if you want, just don't try to push you're gayness into the real world. Be gay in a closet.

Well the author of this story cannot even get his facts "straight". Miss California was NOT Leading going into the final question. The scores for Bathing Suit and Evening Gown were posted on TV live and showed Miss Carolina leading. Miss California has shown very poor sportsmanship for blaming others for her loss. This writer should be ashamed of using her for his own political reasons

This writer needs to get his facts "straight". Miss California was NOT leading going into the final question. She was always behind Miss Carolina in the scoring which was shown live on TV during the evening gown and swim suit competition. What a poor sport she is to blame others for not winning. This writer should be ashamed of himself for using her to try to make his point.
