Help Us Find the 17 'Socialists' in Congress
The witch hunt has begun.
Channeling Joseph McCarthy, one of Alabama's Republican congressmen declared Thursday that no fewer than 17 socialists are roaming the corridors of the House of Representatives.
"Some of the men and women I work with in Congress are socialists," said Rep. Spencer Bachus at a Birmingham breakfast. When asked to clarify his comments, he said he knows of 17 socialist House members, The Birmingham News reported.
This statement lets us know two things about Bachus: He believes there are socialist members of Congress, and he doesn't think socialism is very good.
But, wanting to keep the big secret to himself, he didn't give any names. So, it's time to dust off the old shoe leather and do some investigative reporting. Where can we find a group of 17 socialists on Capitol Hill seeking to undermine the American way? I did some gumshoe digging through congressional groups and found two subcommittees with exactly 17 members. Coincidence?
The first is the Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry, a division of the Agriculture Committee. But one of the members is Mike Rogers, one of Bachus's fellow Republicans from Alabama, and it's unlikely that Bachus would want to implicate a like-minded politician. So scratch that.
The other one I found was the Subcommittee on Homeland Security, part of the powerful Appropriations Committee. Now we're talking. No chickens and yogurt for these 17 policymakers; we're talking ballistic missiles and heavy-armor tanks, just the sort of thing a group of socialists would want to mess with. But unfortunately, a Google News search for "Subcommittee on Homeland Security + socialists" returns hardly anything. Seeing as that is the extent of my investigative capabilities, I was resigned.
Of course, it's entirely possible that the 17 socialists whom Bachus knows about are interspersed in clandestine ways among Congress's 435 House members. Well, 434 -- assuming that Bachus, the top Republican on the Financial Services Committee, does not suspect himself of being a socialist.
Or does he? A staple of socialism is controlling the media and the flow of information. The more censorship, the better for socialist leaders wanting to shape public opinion. Knowing that, take a look at Bachus's website, similar to the other websites kept by all members of Congress. When I tried to find out Bachus's recent committee news -- in "Committee News" under the "Press Room" tab -- I was greeted with this charming message:
"Not Found
The requested URL was not found on this server."
Now, hold on to your subpoenas, Justice Department officials. That broken link appears to lead not to Bachus's main page, but instead to something called "republicans.financialservices.house.gov." Now all we have to do is figure out who those guys are, and we're on our way to finding some answers.

dfhughes: 'Silliness' is exactly what it is, and as long as there are still enough Americans to appreciate this, there's hope.
jim: Agree about Obama and capitalism. The trouble is, we love to pigeonhole, generalize, label. If a person is a socialist, he cannot be a capitalist. If a person is liberal, he can't be conservative. Black and white. Either-or. I fear some Americans are losing the ability to reason or to understand sublety and nuance.
Obama gets that capitalism is a good thing! And that unchecked, it leads to a lot of trouble. A degree of socialism is fine, if that's what people insist on labeling government involvement. We've been brought up to see socialism as EVIL, a step toward communism and failed economic states like Russia. I too remember the 1950's and the Red Scare. I'm also familiar with the scariness of the socialist European countries, those places where people happen to be less stressed, more involved, more cared for, do academically better internationally, live longer, etc. They don't fear losing their freedom. They speak out loudly and clearly when they feel like it. They have nowhere near the percentage of poverty we do, nor the violence, nor the prisoners, nor the number of people totally without healthcare, dependent on very expensive hospital care. They're not perfect, but they are also not places to be feared.
I wonder why Americans resent so strongly the notion that we can learn something from them. Is it our arrogance? Our fear that we'll suddenly lose our sovereignty? What a shame there are people so fearful here that they refuse to open their minds to possibility, to creativity in fashioning solutions that actually make sense.
Obama does have some of these socialist ideas, and thank goodness. Even Teddy Roosevelt believed in the absolute necessity of government regulation.

"Witch hunt?" You SOBs have a lot of room to talk with the likes of Keith Overbite out there accusing those with a proper understanding of the Second Amendment of cop-killing. Clean the eye of newt and toe of frog out of your own pantries before throwing around "witch hunt" allegations.

While in Mexico one year ago I was told that they would not cross to legally work in the U.S. in that we were fighting against immigration. They didn,t cross from San Yansidro ,CA to Brownsville ,TX.Gas Stations,Mcdonalds, had no-one to work in that on boarder towns mexican residents fill the job positions.President Bush flew to Mexico after this incident, met with prior President Fox,and stated that he was behind legal immigration.Bottom line our Socialist Government creates many job positions to give people money for not working,so we need Mexican residents to cook hamburgers at Mcdonalds for us.A young man in KY who was in prison has been deemed as a failure in that he has a $6,000,00 fine,no job,no home,he now receives Social Security.David

Socialism is not the issue,Christianity is the issue, and to be casted into prison for ones faith in Jesus Christ in the U.S.A. makes them a outcast ,and a convict in the United States. However, the Cartel has alot of job opotunities if this country wants to stop people from being functional working members of society,or create more State , County, and Government workforces to provide free housing, and a income to those that remain non functional working members of society. A General in Baja was offered $1,000,000,00 a month to work with the cartel in Baja MX.If authority figures don't want to cooperate with the Cartel then their family are murdered. The choice is work for the Cartel or die. This has now filtered into the U.S.A.David

Why travel? It's in the U.S.A.We have created a workforce to hand out free money, housing, food,to non functional working people. Our Socialist Government has capitalized off of a dysfunctional ,society.Communist Cuba helped pump drugs into the U.S.A. and our Socialist Government created many jobs over Cubas drug
business,to feed people ,with a history of drug use.Want free money? Go to the Social Security Office and tell them you have a addiction problem.Nation wide recovery is big business in a Socialist Country. The Communist Countries are waiting for the right time to take control over a addicted Socialist Country.

It's not what we want,it's what the Communist Countries want.We are doing exactly what they want.We need nationwide recovery for those who have used drugs pumped into this country through Cuba,to Florida, and Mexico. We can create more ,State,County, and Government jobs to hand out free money to those who have been sterotyped as drug addicts by government psychologist. We can have more police ,narcotic task forces, prisons, big business. We are doing exactly what the Communist Countries want!Yes,then we can be taken out,and under their control.Wake Up!

Randy Lanier was housed in The United States Penitentary Of Terre Haute ,IN, with one of the four terrorist who blew up the World Trade Center in New York.If you punch Laniers name in the computer it comes up that he was sentenced to life in Levenworth ,KS,where he has never left.Randy Lanier was a Indy Race Car Driver.Randy Lanier was released in 1995 , and associated with Bill Dawson of Sacramento,CA.One Senator wrote a article in Rolling Stone Magazine on behalf of Randy Lanier.Lanier was from Florida. Why would our government go to such a extreme to cover up Laniers direct association to terrorist, and his release, and where he is residing? Why would a Senator have so much concern over a convicted felon?I believe there is a direct line from Laniers association with one of the four terrorist who blew up the World Trade Center and 9-11.Where did they train to fly? Florida!!!David

Lori Lowery,a Christian ,a United States Probation Officer, employed by The United States Department Of Justice was casted into the mens Penitentiary Of Lompoc ,wrestled down to the ground by a F.B.I. Agent, nothing has ever been done, over this incident.A women who knew of Randy Lanier ,and his association with Jimmy D. Mcquisten, was physically , and mentally abused , by the United States Department Of Justice, by whom she was employed. Can you imagine working to put felons in prison, then being thrown in with them.A woman who knew of a possible terrorist act in the works should be thrown in Prison.Something is wrong with this picture in my eyes, however, the government has done everything in their power to cover it up.A woman who never committed a crime ,who works for the Government, should be thrown in prison ,forced to associate with Dee ,a haggard retired porn star, amoungst other convicted felons associated to Randy Lanier, who was directly associated to Terrorist, who were bonded to Bin Ladin, and blew up the World Trade Center per his instructions.DAVID

David;1994 1000000 people were in prison in the U.S.now there is over 3000000.1 out of 4 have been involved in the judicial system.According to Yahoo the Cartel has control of over 230 cities in the U.S.We cotinue to cast convicted felons out of our workforce, but, the cartel has alot of money, and they will hire them if Mcdonalds won't.Over 7000 homicides, drug related hae taken place in Mexico in the last year. One U.S. Marshall was murdered last week!He was evidently involved, and had a warrant out for his arrest in the U.S.We have a Constitution with a ex-post facto law that no longer applies to U.S. Citizens. What happened in Mexico has filtered over here ,and It can lead to a revolution. You stop people from working , the cartel can give them a job.A General in Baja was offered $1,000,000.00 a month to work with the cartel. How can Satan Cast out Satan ,and if a kingdom be divided against itself it will not stand!

The communist party played a big role in importation of drugs into the U.S.A. Our government has played a socialist role to feed, house, those that have been deemed as failures in the U.S.A.Want free money?Go to the Dept.Of Social Services and tell them your a drug addict!Yes, cons are in drag ,and your tax dollar can support them in that they can no longer be functional working members of society in our Socialist Country. You as a tax payer should feed them, and feed those who work for our Socialist Government that determine that the Cons need your money. The Communist Countries are laughing at this country right now!It is a short time before we are bombed! Then we won't have to use your tax dollars to feed ex-cons!
