Obama: You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry...
A lot of details can get lost in the mix while Washington's best and brightest debate the president's stimulus package. In short, Democrats mostly want to OK the $819 billion boost, while Republicans want to trim it down and include more tax breaks.
It would appear to be a civil debate, maybe a little partisan, but certainly nothing worthy of Taiwan-style parliamentary fistfights --
Oh wait. Barack "The Hulk" Obama just walked in.
Speaking at the House Dems' retreat in Virginia, Obama threw down his stick and pads, spat on the floor and growled in the face of cameras -- metaphorically. Though the president did mock his opponents in the GOP for criticizing how the aid package requires too much spending, saying:
"What do you think a stimulus is? It's spending. That's the whole point! No, seriously, that's the point."
Hey, easy, big guy. We're just saying, maybe we should ease back on the trillion-dollar cash delivery, and have a reasonable discussion about it. I mean, why are we spending $800 billion when we've got this deficit --
"First of all, I found this deficit when I showed up, number 1," Obama barked back. "I found this national debt doubled, wrapped in a big bow waiting for me when I stepped into the Oval Office."
Well, at least it was wrapped!
All right, so party politics is back (did it ever leave?), and it's finally getting fun again. Just this week, John McCain, apparently unaware of Nov. 4's results, returned to the spotlight to offer up his own stimulus package, roughly half the size of Obama's and made up almost entirely of tax cuts. It was promptly rejected in the Senate.
And, before that, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asserted her dominance to reporters when one asked her about Rush Limbaugh and Matt Drudge influencing the stimulus's makeup. "I am the speaker of the House. I don't get into that," she said while waving away the question, Politico reported.
Quick, somebody fetch this Congress a bucket of water. 'Cos it is on fire!

what about spending tax payer to buy new cars for the state and federal workers. wouldn't this save us billions if this was stopped? i see state ,and by the way nice cars, on the highway everyday, speeding alone and enjoying the cars. we have to buy our own cars, why cain't they. has anyone spoke about this to the president? save some money and do this.

Nothing so far should be a surprise for anyone. His lack of experience is compounded by his naiveté. This may be the ultimate example of "learning on the job". Being a professional politician, his (and his appointees) ultimate ethics and performance in office is predictable.

Would one of you brilliant people tell me how the 630,000 new filers for unemployment, or 7.4% unemployed people in America will benefit from a tax break? Would'nt you have to have a check to pay taxes on? Let's put these people back to work. Remember who was in charge when it hit the fan?

It does my heart good to read the negative reports about Obama's behavior. He is certainly not presidential. However, I am so angry that so many were taken in by him and put him in a position to do so much damage to this country. But maybe he is what we need to wake us all up to what is happening to this once great nation and make better choices in the future. In the meantime, we must be vigilant and not sit back and let people like him take us down the path to destruction. Keep up the criticism!!!!

the roaring twenties in a free for grab of greed led to the great depression. enter fdr. he spent and built and gave americans hope. it even helped a little. my father now deceased one year went away a seventeen to work in wpr and sent the money back home to help the folks. but in the end it was the mother of all pork that brought the country out of the depression- world war two. fortunately for us the war was not waged on our soil. now we are comimg off the roaring 2000's and are on the very brink of another depression. i am not very hopeful. the republicans say the stimulis bill is too big and wastefull with not enough tax cuts. history shows us and economists agree that tax cuts do nothing but give the working stiff a few bucks to pay his utility bill and buy some things at walmart to help the chinese economy. the truth is that in this dire times we need the super pork to put americans back to work, but this is politically inpossible and i don't think ww3 is the answer.i live near cleveland and the inter belt is now down to two lanes with no trucks allowed due to deterioration. hows that for a kick in the mouth for free enterprise. we need to retool just like a companey needs to do if they plan to survive and yet the republicans talk of tax cuts.while china builds a new infrastruture we put up with fossilised republicans. when the economy was in its bubble mode did we work on the deficit--noooo. now we settle for too little, too late.

I am amazed with all of the newly born fiscal conservatives. Where were these people when our former President was spending money like a drunken sailor? As long as we are spending 12 billion dollars a month in Iraq, and giving billions more to Halliburton and Dickey C's other friends no one was concerned. Now that we have a President who can actually put two sentences together we have all of these "great" ideas. You cannot have but one President at a time. Let's give this one our support and a chance to fix the mess created by the last one.

This stimulis package is a power play with enough liberal wish list crap to make the demicommie media love it If he can sucker in a few Republicans to vote for it it will be a major socialist victory. His show of strength at the demicomie party picnic was for the fawning media to spill all over the worthless world of baby killers ,pornagraphers , sodimist etc. so they go say oh how tough he can really be.wowwww.Now all he has to do is sell us out in iraque andwe are on our way to the wonderful world of change. With his threat of the fairness docterine and common sence gun control he will be destroying our constitution and his promise of a civilian security force funded at military levels this stimulis package is going to look just like what it is . a scam to keep the media fawning over him while he dismantles America and makes it a socialist dictatorship.

Sherry, what is it with you;are you the new Bernadette Dorhn? Any of your"us" when they storm Washington are in for a big surprise. The city has a larger Black population than white (which was, through most of US History, denied the right to vote). They now have the vote, in case you didn't notice. They rioted in 1968 and closed down the city except for Stokely Carmichael requesting and receiving a police permit for Ben's on U street to remain open to feed the police restoring order in the city. This time, as in Chicago, same year, you would be met by the Democratic administration in control of the Police Force enforcing order. You ought to study US history.
