Just when you thought the Bush-era warnings of Armageddon around the corner were over, Cheney strikes again.
The former vice president hasn't been seen in public since Inauguration Day, when he was rolling around in a wheelchair due to an injury sustained lifting boxes. But a few days ago, he gave an interview to Politico, in which he warns there is a "high probability" that terrorists will attack with biological or nuclear weapons in the next few years. He worries that now that his boss is out of office and back in Texas, the Obama administration policies will make the attacks more likely to succeed.
"When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights to an Al Qaeda terrorist than they are with protecting the United States against people who are absolutely committed to doing anything they can to kill Americans, then I worry," Cheney said.
I think he's just worried we are not worrying enough now that he's not there to worry us.
But for all his worrying, Cheney is a confident man. Saturday Night Live recently mocked Dick Cheney, parodying him as a man with no regrets from his often-controversial eight years in the Bush administration. He told Politico he still thinks Guantanamo is a "first-class program" and said he believes one day files will be made public that show that policies like waterboarding were directly responsible for preventing another Sept. 11-like attack.
Cheney reminds me of another SNL creation: Debbie Downer.

If former Vice President Cheney had this much concern about the terrorists in the future using biological weaponry, why did he not run as a Republican candidate for President instead of sitting out the election? Since Spiro Agnews, I think Cheney is the worse Vice President this country has ever had.

Think you bunch of dumb fucks !! The attacks happened under a REPUBLICAN administration !! If we think like Cheney and the dumb rednecks, crackers and religious freaks like Fat Rush Limbaugh then the president has failed. An attack occurred under the Clinton administration, but no where near as big! It was not Bush's fault nor Clinton's that an attack occurred. With many different groups trying to attack us it is just a matter of time before they will succeed. It will not be Obama's fault if they succeed. The fact is the United States has meddled in other countries affairs, elections, overthrew governments for decades and these people affected by our stupidy have not forgotten and are giving us a taste of our own medicine. We have fucked with Iraq and Iran for decades putting people into power that their people did not choose for our own benefit. I do not want us to get attacked, but we need to sit down and negotiate with these people and pay damages for what we have done. Most of you idiots do not know Osama bin laden was on our side when his people fought against the russians. We gave the taliban (todays taliban) money and arms to fight the Russians. These Islamic sects do not want any foreign powers in the middle east. Leave them the fuck alone. You cannot police the world. Once we settle and they strike us then blow them off the face of the earth, but leave them alone. The christian god is no better than their god (for you religious freaks). By the way Jesus looked like them not a european guy.

Change? Don't you see it. Russia is talking tough. We are getting thrown out of the base in Kyzkastan or how ever you spell it, this will end our efforts in Afganistan
Iran continues toward a nuclear bomb. Guys, what will be the price of oil after the nuclear war in the middle east?

Even though I dislike most of the policies of GWB, he did warn in 2006 that if the newly elected Democratic Congress did not act that the housing and financial institutions would fail and cause nationwide problems. Pelosi and her cohorts chose to ignore Bush and look what happened. For all you morons who are ignorant on how politics work it is the Congress that runs the country. They appropriate the spending and pass the bills for the President to sign. The Democrats were more occupied on making Bush look bad than helping the American people. The famed 103rd Congress made Clinton look great by passing the Contract with America instead of playing with the lives and money of the American people. The Democrats especially Pelosi are greedy, selfish dips. As long as she got her new jet that cost us tax payers billions she did not care that we were losing our houses in record numbers. As for Iraq, we are the worlds police and Saddam was a dictator who needed to be removed, just like Hitler saddam was committing genocide on innocent men women and children. We did the right thing invading Iraq to oust Saddam and keep Israel safe. If you people would open your eyes and not be so blinded by and letting the media do your thinking you could read all the bills at the Library of Congress and check the voting records and bills passed by both Dems and Repubs.and make up your own mind.

We as a nation must never put our guard down again. Nice talk will not stop the crazies from trying to exterminate us from the Earth. Here is a link of an interview with Brad Thor. If you have children this will make you sick to your stomach and the hair stand up on your neck. It made me go over a plan with my children if there were an emergency and what we would do.

one gets more flies with honey than vinegar. how many times has someone turned their attitude around when spoken to with respect and listened to, instead of being threatened. it's all in the attitude towards others.

This is conventional wisdom that does work when dealing with an enemy that is rational however
these people are not rational Their religion of
which they are all united about (unlike us) does
not tolerate infidels(unbelievers to Mohammed)
They want us dead they kill themselves to kill us
They hate America and hate Israel and theres no changing that peace treaties dont work with these
people. They see us as weak they believe that we
must die end of story How do you negotiate with
a kamakaze pilot?

It's really not the point to fault Obama for this. For the first time in eight years, there were no pro-torture candidates on the ballot for the presidential election. If Cheney and Bush had treated prisoners from the Afghanistan situation according to Geneva Convention, we wouldn't have a problem now. If they had restrained themselves from a useless occupation of Iraq, there would be way fewer prisoners. Most of the Guantanamo prisoners are people who were rounded up during conflict in Iraq. Some were innocent bystanders. We're gonna have problems, all right. Bush's fault again.

It really would be nice if people would be a little more civil and actually have some relevant discussions. You don't have to agree and you don't have to like - but name calling does not help. It is my opinion that our attitudes over the last 40+ years have help build the hate and distrust around the world. Since our leadership and corporations have acted towards the third world just as most of you are acting to each other. It has just been in the last 8 that they have become so inflamed.
As a Marine I can tell you that we have helped create more terrorists in Iraq. Did I want my friends or I to go? No - I thought it was a bad choice. But you wear the uniform and you go where you are told. Sure in retrospect it was a really bad choice. At the time did our leaders really think that there was a chance of WMD? I highly doubt any of you have any idea. I have read reports that go back to the Clinton years saying he did. The guy was nuts. But he did have the country under control and his neighbors (Iraq and Syria) busy.
Is Mr Cheney right? We will be attacked again. Too many people want to hurt us. And there are too many countries that would like to help. You only need a few highly motivated people to make an attack work. And don't let the pictures on TV full you. Not all of these folks are dumb. Pakistan and India produce thousands of Phd level people every year. And we employ a lot of them hear in the US.
The question that we have to ask ourselves is "safety at what cost"? How much freedom are you willing to give up? How much inconvenience are you willing to suffer? How much intrusion? And even then we will not be completely safe. Safety is an illusion. And people preaching fear scare me more than anything else.
I do not trust our or any other Government with the right to take and hold people without due process. On the question of torture I am a little more iffy. If someone had taken one of my kids and I KNEW without a doubt who it was and they would not tell me where they where. I would use all means to get the information from them. So if you caught someone making bombs and some where all ready missing, would it be OK? I would say as an exception to the rule yes! I look at it as no different than someone pointing a gun at you and about to pull the trigger. If you don't shoot them they shoot you. But you better be ABSOLUTLY sure you have the right people before you do anything to them.
And who did make us the worlds police? We go help this country but not that one! When are we going to stop doing things that get my kids and their kids so far in debt that they cannot afford to live? We can no longer afford - no that's not right - we have not been able to afford to be the worlds police for a long time.
A Proud Marine's openion
