Just when you thought the Bush-era warnings of Armageddon around the corner were over, Cheney strikes again.
The former vice president hasn't been seen in public since Inauguration Day, when he was rolling around in a wheelchair due to an injury sustained lifting boxes. But a few days ago, he gave an interview to Politico, in which he warns there is a "high probability" that terrorists will attack with biological or nuclear weapons in the next few years. He worries that now that his boss is out of office and back in Texas, the Obama administration policies will make the attacks more likely to succeed.
"When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights to an Al Qaeda terrorist than they are with protecting the United States against people who are absolutely committed to doing anything they can to kill Americans, then I worry," Cheney said.
I think he's just worried we are not worrying enough now that he's not there to worry us.
But for all his worrying, Cheney is a confident man. Saturday Night Live recently mocked Dick Cheney, parodying him as a man with no regrets from his often-controversial eight years in the Bush administration. He told Politico he still thinks Guantanamo is a "first-class program" and said he believes one day files will be made public that show that policies like waterboarding were directly responsible for preventing another Sept. 11-like attack.
Cheney reminds me of another SNL creation: Debbie Downer.

We won't really know if Cheney is right or not until Obama is out of office. If there hasn't been an attack then Cheney was wrong. If there has then Cheney was right. All the BS spouted back and forth until then is just emotional partisanship on a personal bulletin board level

You had ALL better hope he is wrong. I don't know him to form oppinion but he has some very good points. We are easy to judge and critisize others, but if this man ends up right, you and your kids will end up dead. I find it hard to believe the first priority of a new president is to take care of prisoners who had a hand in attacks on our country. There is something very wrong in that message. And by the way, where is all this "change" we are to have?? The only thing to change since the new president was elected are his promises. He can't even appoint a new person in office without baggage and controversy. Be careful who you laugh at, you just might end up, "very afraid".

Where is the change? Your ignorance is showing. Did you expect the change to happen the minute the inauguration was over? There is a lot of damage to reverse from the prior administration...Ya know, the one that said the economy in the US was strong back in August 2008, nothing to worry about.
As for Cheney, if these attacks were so easy to predict why didn't almighty George do something sooner? Oh yeah, we were busy in Iraq, again, why are we there?

Cheney in a wheelchair reminds me of Mr. Potter in "It's a Wonderful Life!" I hate Dick - seeing him with a cane makes him even more like the Penguin in Batman (the original TV show back in the Sixties) a la Jon Stewart. "Waaaack!"
Seriously, 9/11 did happen on his watch and he never got over it. Even his friends claim he has never been the same since that day. He went on a power grab we will all be paying for forever. Then he tainted the Gitmo detainees by torturing them, they now can't be tried in court - thanks, Dick!

Sarah === Dick was not at Gitmo !!! He did not torture..
Bob === Alot of people did not go to Vietnam, I did not go and so did alot of my friends. Bush did join the Guard. That is more than what I did. There were millions of men that did not go to Vietnam.
Bettybb..=== I think you are thinking of the impeached president Clinton he missed so many red flags that his butt is red.. He missed the cobart towers bombing, the world trade towers in 1993, the USS cole, In the 8 years that Clinton was president our soldiers were dying from terrorist attacks. Bush and Cheney did something about it. That is why we have been safe for 7 1/2 years..
Now we have a twit in the white house that wants to spend more money than all the wars that we have fought to help his cronies, and the labor unions. You complain about the cost of the war but we have just thrown away trillions of dollars that you and I will have to pay for over the next 30 years. Plus these programs will never go away.. In one month Obama has destroyed this country and we may never recover.
He has order a new fleet of helicopters for himself at the COST OF 11 MILLION DOLLARS, BUT HE IS CUTTING THE DEFENSE BUDGET AND SOLDIERS AND US WILL DIE SO THAT HE CAN FLY AROUND IN COMFORT.

I find it scary that there are people here who think terrorism is a military matter, and whose understanding is so shallow that they aren't even aware of what goes on in other countries and the effect our policies have on people around the globe. This is important. It's critical. Do you people never has yourselves 'how' or 'why' anything happens? Are you so lulled by the mindless 'they hate us for our freedoms' inanity that you persist in a simplistic kindergarten mindset?
Cheney would appear to. We were safe for 7 years BEFORE 9/11, too. He and like-minded buddies have done untold damage to us and put us in a much more precarious position. Either he is completely devoid of introspection and critical thinking or he truly is a very immoral individual.

My business career was in preventing and/or minimizing catrastrophic losses, e.g. Fire, Liability, Earthquake, environmental pollution, etc. From that point of view, it made good sense that the President and Vice President should avoid being in the same place at the same time. I didn't like it then and don't now; but Risk-Avoidance, I thought; that's all it was. But these half-baked assertions of imminent Doom after he has left office have caused me to re-think Mr. Cheney. That's the problem with Paranoia: you can't PROVE that his fears are wrong ! You also can't PROVE that his fears aren't SELF-FULFILLING ! That is, that Iraq, Iran, or somebody won't take his fears as policy-predictions, and act accordingly. I don't know Mr. Cheney. I don't call him a paranoiac. But I'm just as glad he's out of the decision-making loop at last.
