Palin Seeks $11M Book Deal, but Can She Read?
Posted: Jan 25th 2009 1:59AM
Filed under: US Elections, Politics, Boston University, MediaOne can only imagine what Republican rising star Sarah Palin could possibly write about in her memoirs. The true story behind Todd's goatee? Which makeup is the most mavericky? Untold stories from the six colleges she attended as an undergrad?
Whatever's going to be in the book, the former VP candidate is asking for an $11 million book deal, and has hired a famous Washington lawyer to get it for her, the Los Angeles Times revealed. (That's more than Laura Bush's less-than $2 million, Bill Clinton's $10 million memoir and Hillary Clinton's $8 million deal.)
The figure is obviously a bit staggering, given Palin's inability to construct simple sentences in subject-verb format. That's probably what prompted left-leaning MSNBC host Chris Matthews to blatantly state, "If she can read, if she can write, she's gonna make some money."
"The big question is," Matthews determined, "Who's gonna actually write the Palin book? The only politician I know who can write is Barack Obama."
To answer Matthews's question: Yes, Sarah Palin knows how to read. In fact, I believe she's very well-versed in biblical studies, having plenty of knowledge to declare that dinosaurs and humans in fact co-existed.
Although when Katie Couric asked the Alaska governor which newspapers she reads to know what's going on outside of her bubble, Palin was too stunned and couldn't think of any. (She figured it out a few days later and declared that she can read a few upper-level publications, among them The Economist.)
No doubt people will ask why this is all newsworthy more than two months after she failed to help John McCain win the election. The simple answer is because Palin appears to be trying to stay in the spotlight as much as she can, as her fans urge her to consider a 2012 presidential candidacy.
Yet top endorsements for her are hard to come by, especially following a GOP ticket that many people say she hurt more than helped. Even her knight in maverick armor, McCain, wouldn't endorse her over other Republican governors.
Aside from telling her life story to stay in the news, Palin has lashed out at the media again, this time for reporting about her children. Though politicos have pointed out that publicity is a two-way street: You can't thrust your kids in front of cameras to bolster your "family values" without expecting journalists to report on who your family really is.
Finally, remember Palin's $180,000 wardrobe that she said would be donated to charity after the election? Turns out all the clothes have been stuffed in trash bags at the RNC's Washington headquarters.
Though if Palin doesn't clean up her mess, her clothes won't be the only things in the garbage.

Obama is a creation of affirmative action and political correctness. Merit and intelligence have nothing to do with it. The same is true for his wife. It isn't hard to graduate when your admission was determined by your color and you can't be failed out.Nice to know that the Presidency is now an affirmative action position.

One of the traits of being a reporter is the absolute need to do unbiased reporting regarding of personal preferences, but Matt Nagrins' dissertation on Sarah Palin is nothing short of a verbal tirade of the left kind.
Thanks for the stupidity of your reporter's comments.

My my. Clothes, negotiating and pushing her way to 'the top' - compare the requirements/duties/knowledge/smarts for Alaska politicians with those of the real world - and oh! people are so jealous of all Palin has accomplished.
There are still people defending the incomprehensible, and this would be worrying if they weren't such an irrelevant little group.
Folks, in what parallel universe were Palin's interviews 'difficult'? What does she read? Horrors. How dare she be asked such a challenging little aside? Was she asked about her plans to balance our relationships with Russia and Georgia - a country which wasn't blameless, though try to explain that to our Sarah who thinks all is 'good' or 'bad' - with the urgency of securing all loose nuclear material, much of which lies around Russia? Her understanding of our history with the factions in Sri Lanka and who best we would support and which nations are on the same page with our approach? The influence of St. Thomas Aquinas on present-day relationships among different branches of different religions? The industrialization and connectedness among China and it's trade agreements with the rest of the world? The green technology being developed there and in Denmark as it affects our investments?
This kind of familiarity with and interest in global issues, tensions and cultures is a given for any world leader. Ir contextualizes everything and allows the perspective required for analysis and decision-making.
No, Palin has nothing to say. And yes, reading widely and intelligently would be a start. And studying our Constitution and the balance of power.

Obama was never asked any tough questions...
Oh yes, maybe how's the weather in chicago these days...
Please, Obama got a huge pass.
Palin's interviews were several hours long, and the mistake that the McCain campaign made was to LET the liberal media CUT the interview the way they saw fit, taking everything... INCLUDING the comment about Russia out of context.
So what, she CAN see Russia from Alaska, and? I can see the Eiffel Tour from my house, does that mean that I am an idiot?.....
If so, then I am honored to be in such good company. Palin is truly the modern woman, the woman that so called feminist supposedly fought for us to be. A woman who has it all, family, home, and career. The catch is that Palin is still feminine, and not butch... that is what angers the bra burning, man hating generation....

The only thing this article does is point out how small minded the writer is. Some of the comments prove the same. The Obama kool-aid must be bad for your mental and emotion health.

Oh wow, here we go AGAIN, with the liberals claiming some republican can't read or speak correctly. You know, if you guys keep crying wolf too many times, sooner or later people aren't going to believe you anymore! Of all the blogs I've seen on these aol sites over the years, the vast majority of seemingly illiterate people have been the liberals, NOT the republicans! I've seen many idiotic liberal blogs whereby the person who wrote it doesn't even know that you end a sentence in a PERIOD before you begin another sentence, it's a joke, and they've all been the liberal "writers".

We are still talking about Palin? Geesh...in her case, words spoke louder than actions because she only seemed smart until she started to talk...she's the governor of Alaska, but her looks got her that job, not her brain-CLEARLY!

For a person who took 6 colleges to be awarded a degree in journalism, who has such difficulty composing a sentence with both a subject and a predicate (a task which my grandson had mastered by his first birthday), Sarah Palin was obviously in over her head during this election. Fear of public speaking is real, and she may have had difficulty thinking on her feet. Do not compare her to C. Kennedy. There is no comparison. A Harvard law degree and books on the constitution are in a totally different league.

McCain's choice shocked the main stream Republican Leadership. McCain knew he was slated to lose. Historians backed that up with "Low ratings of incumbent Presidents data." What do you do? Anything, everything, choose a gimmick for attention - Palin from Alaska fit the bill. McCain didn't do proper research on her but no matter. Republicans rallied around this woman because they needed a fresh face more than they knew. The glitter is over, it didn't work but was close - now they are stuck with a Palin who loved the limelight but is a bit common and a bit dumb. The flock of sheep (Republicans) will buy her book.

Well Matt, we're talking about Sarah Palin here, not Carolyn Kennedy Schlongberg. You mentioned her not being able to read and speak properly so naturally you meant Kennedy I presume?
Oh and Matt, one could also assume that a man-of-the-press should be an unbiased, legitimate journalist as opposed to a unscroupulous slug who probably still wets his bed at night. You're on the same level as any 5th tier papparazzi douchbag with a pen and a camera. How'd you get to be such a dickhead anyway?

Obama incorrectly stated how many states are in the US! When asked why he purchased his home from Rezko (convicted felon for bribes and kick backs in Illinois), Obama said he had never purchased a house before and needed help. OMG... and this man is now in charge of our country. Palin is the least of the problems at hand people. Obama takes the cake for ignorance.
And Matt Negrin get over your self. You're not the brightest bulb on the tree.

Sarah in 2012 - let's send a message that the true middle class is fed up with these liberal morons. Most of the liberals I know are either on the government payroll, union workers, or welfare recipients. We must get politicians who represent their constituency, instead of paying homage to their careers. The elite liberals are smart, however. They know how to pander to the uninformed, and the media is only too happy to accommodate them with left wing bias. Notice how the press treated BO's 170 million dollar inauguration bill (as a necessary expense), yet vilified Bush on 04 for his 42 million dollar bill.
The only decent info on TV now is Fox - the rest is pure propaganda.
I like most liberals, just wish they weren't so clueless. It would also help if they were required to pass a basic intelligence test (and pay taxes) before being able to vote.

If palin writes like she talks, the book will be a mashup of mangled syntax and some of the weirdest sentence constructions this side of gwb's upscripted comments. The book will either be ghostwritten or thoroughly cleaned up by editors at her publishing house. Either way, all one will have to do is read her "sparkling" prose (sic) and then listen to some of her unscripted moments captured on youtube to detect the difference.

I gather this article is commentary rather than reporting since the entire story is false. Check out Greta Van Sustern's blog. Aware of the enumerable false stories about Sarah Palin circulated during the campaign, Greta contacted Governor Palin about this book "story." Governor Palin is not writing a book. She does not have an agent shopping a book. Governor Palin is busy governing. I see the Sarah Palin derangement syndrome is thriving on your campus.

Sarah Palin scared the crap out of me because she is soooo stupid! She's governor of a state that has the population of a small city, not a major city. She thinks that yahooing is diplomacy and she can't identify all the countries in the Middle East or Europe. Maverick hell, moron more like it.
