Obama to GOP: 'I Won, I'm The President'
Posted: Jan 25th 2009 5:15PM
Filed under: Politics, National News, News, Muskingum CollegeRepublicans wanting to play nice with the Democratic majority and the Obama administration will need to quit listening to Rush Limbaugh, Obama said, and get used to the new sheriff in town.
"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," Obama told GOP leaders whom he had invited to the White House. Obama set up the meeting to discuss his planned nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

"One prong of the Great Unifier's plan is to isolate elected Republicans from their voters and supporters by making the argument about me and not about his plan," Limbaugh told the National Review's Byron York in response. "He is hoping that these Republicans will also publicly denounce me and thus marginalize me."
"To make the argument about me instead of his plan makes sense from his perspective," Limbaugh continued. "Obama's plan would buy votes for the Democrat Party, in the same way FDR's New Deal established majority power for 50 years of Democrat rule, and it would also simultaneously seriously damage any hope of future tax cuts. It would allow a majority of American voters to guarantee no taxes for themselves going forward. It would burden the private sector and put the public sector in permanent and firm control of the economy."
The full text of Limbaugh's response can be found here.
Obama went on to arrogantly claim that he essentially planned to ram his plan through without bipartisan support, nearly saying if anyone disagrees with him then they are going against some heavenly mandate. Let there be no doubt - he's the boss.
"I won," he told GOP leaders. "I'm the president."
The divisive comments come after years of campaigning on a promise to end partisan bickering and unite the country. GOP leaders have complained the legislation that included his stimulus package was drafted without the input Obama had promised to allow them.
The "flip-flops" haven't stopped there.
Stringent ethics rules, particularly targeting the so-called "revolving door" involving lobbyists, also have become part of what Transition Co-chair John Podesta described as "the strictest and most far-reaching ethics rules of any transition team in history."
During the campaign, Obama criticized Sen. John McCain for using lobbyists in high-ranking positions on his campaign. Obama himself promised no lobbyists would be a part of his administration - "They won't find a job in my White House." Yet, Mr. Obama's nominee for deputy secretary of defense, William Lynn, has been a lobbyist for the defense contractor Raytheon, and his nominee for deputy secretary of health and human services, William V. Corr, lobbied for stricter tobacco regulations as an official with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
Obama also promised more transparency during the campaign and yet refused to allow television cameras to film him re-doing the botched swearing-in and also from signing the executive order reversing the Bush abortion funding ban on aid agencies abroad to avoid criticism from pro-life groups. The latter didn't slip under the radar of the Vatican, however, as one Vatican official called Obama "arrogant" for doing it.
After signing the order, Obama released a statement promising to "reach out to those on all sides of this issue to achieve the goal of reducing unintended pregnancies."
"It is time we end the politicization of this issue," he added quite ironically.

It would be so nice if people like Michael could stay on topic instead of attacking those that may disagree. If you can't argue the facts just attack the opponent. It is too early to tell what O will be as a president. His remarks were divisive. Things change quickly in public forums as the republicans learned.

Not very cool Mr Pres. Pounding your own chest is not a way to influence people. As to the name calling post, can anyone just stay on topic without the personal attacks? Is it any wonder that most do not vote with this maturity level displayed by posters?

Were you negative bloggers not here in this country for the last 30 years??? It has not been a history of which to be proud. The few control the many and the many struggle. Gone is the sense of community and integrity, our children are fatherless and hungry, our mothers struggle for childrens basic necessities, our men have lost their way, our youth are angry because they've been thrown into a world and given no direction, our elderly suffer alone and abused, our babies are born to babies. These are not the problems of one race, religion, nationality, income bracket or age group; it is all of our problem. Can we continue to stumble blindly in the dark??? I think now it is beyond time for a change.
We live in an age of ignorance. So, there are among us those who honestly believe that letting the man next to us fall down does not affect ourselves??? We are linked together as is DNA and as is a chain. Should we break this link or do nothing to repair it, we become deformed and useless. We have, as a society, grown into our own version of the elephant man.
We were, not long ago, the strongest nation and now we are the weakest link. We are uneducated, imprisoned by our weak minds, and too foolish to stand up for what is right. We have bcome a nation of ass kissers and cowards, chasing pennies, instead of pursuing freedom and happiness. Silence your ego and fears, embrace this challenge; it is ours to defeat together. We have failed individually (an entire nation of homes and lives lost in the last 8 years of free enterprise), now is to time to stand with our friends and neighbors, sisters and brothers, co-workers and strangers, we can only recover if we stand united.

Your post was nothing, if not ironic. You begin by characterizing others as being "negative", then continue by spewing non-stop negativity in your own comments.
The social ills that you describe can be found in all communities, but are far, far more prevalent in the black community. That, and your name Letrice, tells me everything that I need to know about you.
You hate America, so the fact that she has suffered a death blow at the hands of ignorant, brainwashed, disloyal voters is seen by you as being a victory.
I wonder, will you be joining Obama's Stalinist "CIVILIAN PARAMILITARY", that will be, in Obama's own words "AS POWERFUL AS THE U.S. MILITARY"?
Your rhetoric is just as empty as your Messiah's, eloquent, but devoid of any substance.

Politics is nothing but a game of power. It's the reason I DO NOT VOTE. Look at the Republicans and how they use the sacred name of God and stick it to the Republican party (God's Own Party). If I'm not mistaken, that's misuse of God's holy name and is considered blasphemy against God. I'm a firm believer in God and I read the bible. It is very disrespectful to God. Christians need to start asking themselves how God feels about his name being misused.

Did we expect that he come quietly through the servants back entrance and weakly ask to be heard??? Hell no, he fought a wonderful fight with great tenacity and proudly prevailed. Making budget decisions out in the open is his entitlement as was Bush's radical decision to send our children into a war over private family business. The story the media sold about 911 was a farce.

The stimulus jobs don't translate to long term private sector jobs. It's all made by the government and you and me will be paying for it.

Republicans should do everything possible to stop the tactics and policies of the new president. Just like the dems did with Bush. Turnabout is fair play.

Ronald N Doe, you think abortions cost tax-
payers money, what do you think it costs taxpayers to support children that are not
wanted with healthcare, social workers,
child abuse, mental health, crime. It hurts
a lot more to know you were not wanted and
we pay a lot more for people who are hurt and angry.there are somethings worse than
never being born. Intill you can give birth
to a child you should keep your opinion to your self!

THE GOP BASICALLY TOLD OBAMA TO SHOVE IT where the sun don't shine a week later when they dissed his stimulus bills. Obama just doesn't get it... the GOP still has the filibuster (thank you America) and are itching to use it to show him who's REALLY boss. LOL

The facts are that 68 million voters say he won but 59 million people say he is another dirty Chicago based politician that is the puppet of the very wealthy liberal media. Oh and not to forget the tv talk show host and Hollywood.

I think Obama is learning an important lesson about the Republicans, one that was so vividly shown to all Americans when they were in power for six years, and during the last two years when they obstructed all good legislation that would have helped the people. Republicans are not bipartisan people. The best thing Congress could do is pass a change to the ethical rules in the Senate so that it only takes 50, not 60 votes to end a filibuster. Its necessary so that our government can fix the the Bush/Republican mess left behind as quickly as possible.
