Obama to GOP: 'I Won, I'm The President'
Posted: Jan 25th 2009 5:15PM
Filed under: Politics, National News, News, Muskingum CollegeRepublicans wanting to play nice with the Democratic majority and the Obama administration will need to quit listening to Rush Limbaugh, Obama said, and get used to the new sheriff in town.
"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," Obama told GOP leaders whom he had invited to the White House. Obama set up the meeting to discuss his planned nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

"One prong of the Great Unifier's plan is to isolate elected Republicans from their voters and supporters by making the argument about me and not about his plan," Limbaugh told the National Review's Byron York in response. "He is hoping that these Republicans will also publicly denounce me and thus marginalize me."
"To make the argument about me instead of his plan makes sense from his perspective," Limbaugh continued. "Obama's plan would buy votes for the Democrat Party, in the same way FDR's New Deal established majority power for 50 years of Democrat rule, and it would also simultaneously seriously damage any hope of future tax cuts. It would allow a majority of American voters to guarantee no taxes for themselves going forward. It would burden the private sector and put the public sector in permanent and firm control of the economy."
The full text of Limbaugh's response can be found here.
Obama went on to arrogantly claim that he essentially planned to ram his plan through without bipartisan support, nearly saying if anyone disagrees with him then they are going against some heavenly mandate. Let there be no doubt - he's the boss.
"I won," he told GOP leaders. "I'm the president."
The divisive comments come after years of campaigning on a promise to end partisan bickering and unite the country. GOP leaders have complained the legislation that included his stimulus package was drafted without the input Obama had promised to allow them.
The "flip-flops" haven't stopped there.
Stringent ethics rules, particularly targeting the so-called "revolving door" involving lobbyists, also have become part of what Transition Co-chair John Podesta described as "the strictest and most far-reaching ethics rules of any transition team in history."
During the campaign, Obama criticized Sen. John McCain for using lobbyists in high-ranking positions on his campaign. Obama himself promised no lobbyists would be a part of his administration - "They won't find a job in my White House." Yet, Mr. Obama's nominee for deputy secretary of defense, William Lynn, has been a lobbyist for the defense contractor Raytheon, and his nominee for deputy secretary of health and human services, William V. Corr, lobbied for stricter tobacco regulations as an official with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
Obama also promised more transparency during the campaign and yet refused to allow television cameras to film him re-doing the botched swearing-in and also from signing the executive order reversing the Bush abortion funding ban on aid agencies abroad to avoid criticism from pro-life groups. The latter didn't slip under the radar of the Vatican, however, as one Vatican official called Obama "arrogant" for doing it.
After signing the order, Obama released a statement promising to "reach out to those on all sides of this issue to achieve the goal of reducing unintended pregnancies."
"It is time we end the politicization of this issue," he added quite ironically.

OK All you Obama-ites...Are you starting to get a clear picture now!?!?!.....You "Messiah" is a Pro-Muslim, anti-American, Racist, Lying, Cheating Crook who is out to destroy America...
Just look at his Cabinet picks...Just about ALL of them are either Chicago Crooks, Re-Cycled Clintonists...including Big Momma Hillary who would sell her mother for a political boost...or multi-term DC insiders who have no interest in any sort of positive "change" in America...
Already he's weakening the Military...Already he's putting Racist hiring patterns into play (his "new" construction jobs are to go to Blacks and/or women...White males need not apply) and banks are being pushed to grant loans firstly to Blacks and Minorities...not Whites...regardless of ability to handle and pay-back the loans (Isn't that what started the downfall of Fanny and Freddy!!!)...
And, now, THIS Character...This Pro-Taliban lawyer...Another corrupt Lawyer who would rather defend Muslim Terrorists that stand-up for America....
THIS is the scum YOU have voted into the Presidency, and who will do more to damage America than any Foreign Power ever could....
NOW DO YOU SEE WHAT A DUPLICITOUS PIECE-OF-TRASH CON-ARTIST YOU HAVE PUT INTO THE WHITE HOUSE...You have sentenced America and Democracy to a slow death...

Ahhh, I see that Obama's Democattle Lemmings are out in force to defend their Messiah. The day will come when they will openly worship him as God.
The Demo-Lemmings will make fine members for Obama's proposed "CIVILIAN PARAMILITARY FORCE", which will be, in Obama's words, "AS POWERFUL AS THE U.S. MILITARY".
Gee, I wonder where Obama ever came up with that idea? Stalin? Hitler? Mao? Pol Pot? Marx? Lenin?
Which also begs the question...Do Gays make good Brownshirts?

Amazing....Obama has been in office for little over a week and all this fuss already? Really?! It seems that there are people who would rather see the USA fail then accept the fact that there is a Democrat in the oval office.
I didn't like many of Mr Bush's policies but I never wanted him to fail becuase if he fails we all fail.
How un American to "hope a president fails"!

All he is saying is that he is now the President (not by forfeiture or default but because he was voted in by the electoral college AND the poular vote) and that the "same old same old" will not apply under his watch; that he came in with a major plan and he's going to initiate that plan. He is telling them, as most bosses do, to get on board. That is now arrogant. That's being the boss. What did they expect him to do? Make nicey nice with everyone? Truth be told, you have to be a bit arrogant in such a position; otherwise people will be trying to test him for "softness". He is showing committment and resolve. Let's see where it takes us before we complain about hijm establishing his dominant position in government as fact. Besides, it IS fact.

Tonya - You should educate yourself on how government is suppose to work. It doesn't work like a business, where he is the boss, as you say, and everyone is suppose to get on board. That is not the intended purpose of Congress. You are more proof of the fact that many voters should educate themselves more before they vote - or else don't vote.

Jody;
Believe me, I understand how our government works and that's exactly WHY I voted for Obama. I have also been a government employee for the past 13 years and I know that when there is no respectful working integration extended from the powers that be then what you have is a bunch of head bashing and in-fighting. He is simply letting it be known that he expects a strong working relationship with them, not division. You needn't assume that I don't know how our government works; as a thirteen year federal employee I've gotten to know very intimately the workings of our system and it's tendency to twist and pervert exact law just because they can. Someone should have looked into this long ago, BUT our government has been run by those who only care about the written word, not those individual American citizens who the word applies to. Government needs to change to meet the needs of the people, not just those with a high profile job. There has been too much ego in government and it's nice to see that someone is trying to make a difference that will aplly to the masses.

Obama seems to be running these meetings while sucking his thumb. How immature. I'm sure everyone in the meeting was expressing their OWN point of view - not those of Rush. What a childish comment - or assumption. If Obama & Pelosi truly want bi-partisan (I think that is just a scam) - then they should truly be listening to all input - not declaring to the media "Well, it's my way because I won the election".

He sure did win but not without a bunch of crooked votes being cast and alot of bull shit from obamas mouth. Joshaua Chaney you can get off your knees now that you have serviced obama. This slug will be the next President Harding. He won nothing, if things weren't bleak his chances of winning were slim. The reason he beat Hillary was because of dumb ass errors by billy clinton. And the elite liberal ass holes who had it in for Hillary for some reason. If the Republicans would have had a true Republican running he would never crossed the finish line. Sen McCAIN had the fairy tale understanding that you can play with these slime balls and get elected, he screwed with the base and that cost him.

The quote: I won, I am the president, is taken completely out of context. He was talking about an issue that had been debated during the campaign and the GOP position was found to be unpopular with the American people.
Why does anyone care what Rush says? He is probably glad a Democrat is in office, so the media will give him ink and more people will listen to his intellectually dishonest, incomplete commentary.
I have one questions for the anti-abortion folks, how much do you advocate for more resources for foster care--you know the place where unwanted kids or kids whose parents cannot adequately care for them often languish for years in the "system"?

to many conservatives...Rush IS the VOICE for the conservatives and right wing Republicans. This could really back-fire on the new prez. By telling senators not to listen to the voice of the conservs, he is going to anger a lot of people. But, he is the prez now as he himself boasts...
