Obama to GOP: 'I Won, I'm The President'
Posted: Jan 25th 2009 5:15PM
Filed under: Politics, National News, News, Muskingum CollegeRepublicans wanting to play nice with the Democratic majority and the Obama administration will need to quit listening to Rush Limbaugh, Obama said, and get used to the new sheriff in town.
"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," Obama told GOP leaders whom he had invited to the White House. Obama set up the meeting to discuss his planned nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

"One prong of the Great Unifier's plan is to isolate elected Republicans from their voters and supporters by making the argument about me and not about his plan," Limbaugh told the National Review's Byron York in response. "He is hoping that these Republicans will also publicly denounce me and thus marginalize me."
"To make the argument about me instead of his plan makes sense from his perspective," Limbaugh continued. "Obama's plan would buy votes for the Democrat Party, in the same way FDR's New Deal established majority power for 50 years of Democrat rule, and it would also simultaneously seriously damage any hope of future tax cuts. It would allow a majority of American voters to guarantee no taxes for themselves going forward. It would burden the private sector and put the public sector in permanent and firm control of the economy."
The full text of Limbaugh's response can be found here.
Obama went on to arrogantly claim that he essentially planned to ram his plan through without bipartisan support, nearly saying if anyone disagrees with him then they are going against some heavenly mandate. Let there be no doubt - he's the boss.
"I won," he told GOP leaders. "I'm the president."
The divisive comments come after years of campaigning on a promise to end partisan bickering and unite the country. GOP leaders have complained the legislation that included his stimulus package was drafted without the input Obama had promised to allow them.
The "flip-flops" haven't stopped there.
Stringent ethics rules, particularly targeting the so-called "revolving door" involving lobbyists, also have become part of what Transition Co-chair John Podesta described as "the strictest and most far-reaching ethics rules of any transition team in history."
During the campaign, Obama criticized Sen. John McCain for using lobbyists in high-ranking positions on his campaign. Obama himself promised no lobbyists would be a part of his administration - "They won't find a job in my White House." Yet, Mr. Obama's nominee for deputy secretary of defense, William Lynn, has been a lobbyist for the defense contractor Raytheon, and his nominee for deputy secretary of health and human services, William V. Corr, lobbied for stricter tobacco regulations as an official with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
Obama also promised more transparency during the campaign and yet refused to allow television cameras to film him re-doing the botched swearing-in and also from signing the executive order reversing the Bush abortion funding ban on aid agencies abroad to avoid criticism from pro-life groups. The latter didn't slip under the radar of the Vatican, however, as one Vatican official called Obama "arrogant" for doing it.
After signing the order, Obama released a statement promising to "reach out to those on all sides of this issue to achieve the goal of reducing unintended pregnancies."
"It is time we end the politicization of this issue," he added quite ironically.

I cant wait until both of you are proven wrong. Of course Im SURE you will find a way amidst all the success to find a way that he fail. You two are almost as ignorant as the one debating his abortion policy a few posts up. If you want change, quit crying behind the safety net of a forum and get out there and make a difference somehow!

To James,
I AM out there making a difference. I'm an adoptive mother to a special needs kid. I am the oldest of 9 with NO ONE in the family taking one bit of welfare. I have served in the US Army for over 22 years (that's ME, not just my husband). I have volunteered at my church, counseled Boy Scouts and helped juvenile offenders with their homework. Now tell me that want you have done in your miserable life compares, or for that matter, what has your savior, Obama, done that wasn't self-serving? You are the one is ignorant and you can't dispute it. And with regard to abortion, you've changed my mind-- Abort all the fetuses that you have anything to do with. You don't deserve to reproduce.

How great that the presidential election is just a contest and when you will you get to be boss for 4 years. Thats all it is anymore and I didn't vote for Obama and I do not think he will do a good job, I agree with a majority of these comments.

For all the zelots who are complaing that the television media was not clammering in on Obama's second oath, even though not having a bible, koran or any other type of religious text and the media present is not a requirement to take the oath, perhaps Obama should take a third oath and have it done so that the television media would shut up! The second oath was exposed to a media source that being the radio media. Is there a requirement that states what type of media is the President suppose to have present? This is so ridiculous that CNN would waste its broadcasting resources by constantly harping on this subject. Afterall, when one is about to give testimony in a court or any other type of formal tribunal they take the oath, but there is usually no bible or any other type of religious object used; just their right hand up.

Young girls use abortion as birth control
to get rid of inconvenient babys. Where do
you get your facts from Judy? And do you think a girl should be force to have a baby
she cannot take care of,or did not want?

Yes, no young girl should use abortion as a form of birth control. They should never become pregnant in the first place. Where are the parents - they should be teaching their girls that sex is dangerous before marriage - unwanted pregnancy, STD, AIDS, etc.
There is nothing wrong with waiting for the right time for sex.

dnine 1.2 million abortions in the US, a $ billion dollar business with US Taxpayers paying $337 million. 40 million abortions in the US since Roe - Vs- Wade, 40 million abortions worldwide last year. You need to start asking yourself some real questions, soul searching questions before defending abortion.

I am working with a lot of 20 year olds whose biggest concern is to go to the clubs and party. They DO use abortion as a means of birth control and some more than once. They have been taught that these babies are not reall alive so they kill it. It is disturbing to say the least. I am tired of hearing about how "this is my body". What about the baby's body? Abortion is cruel and painful for the non child. If our society turns itself into sociopaths what does that leave us with? If these babies are not alive then why do they have to be killed? Maybe it would be better to just say the truth, it is legal to kill inconvenient babies up until a certain time but for God's sake to not say that it is not a life.

Why's Obama worried about one little ol' citizen? He's has the bully pulpit. He can make laws and call them Executive Orders. Why is he worried that Rush will influence the Republicans

Barry is correct. He won. Period. Rush, he isn't trying to make it about you. He is just letting it be known what the rest of us have known for YEARS. You, dear dear Rush, are a washed up drug addicted wingnut hasbeen @sshole. Nothing more, nothing less. Secretly, some of us are just waiting for you and Ann to get hitched to each other and have a gay kid. It would be such bliss to watch the two of you suffer through that. Such sweet agony.

A pseudonym for Dick, maybe? Limbaugh relates to a KKK mentality audience. Like Coulter, Billo and Hannity, he's talking to hear himself, and the more inflammatory, outrageous or made up the noise is, the better. When did Bush or Cheney ever meet with the dems about anything except to spin lies. They stuck their 'mandate' up our collective asses and look how that wound up.

I love how people scream about abortion and morality when the United States kills mothers and children everyday in the name of faux- freedom. Bush started a war, then dipped out and threw America the peace sign as he resides in a cushy little home in Texas... But Obama's catching flack for being a politician. Yes, he made history, yes, he's not a god, but he's a politician. Abortion and war are the same thing killing inconvenient people. (sorry to be so crass). Why are we eyeball deep in dept, when at this point (2009) nothing's free and the standard of life is boomingly delicious for those who can afford it. We are still barbaric, living in a world of 'my bad's, 'that's life's and "free-enterprise". No one seems to notice how freaking fishy it is that Bush pardons Guantanamo (wtf is a Gitmo, anyway) Bay officers, then just bounces out of office? or that there are sick people from 9-11 all around, coughing and wheezing.. And better yet, a big ass hole.. STILL in the ground!?! After how many years and they still can't find so much as a office chair!?!? Point being the world is a helluva place right now.. And honestly, I'm not in favor of the goverment of the seediness of it's sheer existance.. But all I can do is wait for something to happen, something to change. The greatest nation in the world is jobless, hungry, over-run with vagrants, criminals and broken homes, with no education to speak of and hardly and housing.. But we can afford a bailout and a lavish inaugural ball?
P.s.- Don't call me a conservative. Don't call me a liberal. There are no such things. Band together, open your eyes and change the world. A viewpoint is a viewpoint. As solid as rock and as fluid as water.
