Palin Said Humans and Dinosaurs Coexisted?!
Posted: Sep 28th 2008 5:52PM
Filed under: US Elections, Politics, Breaking News, Boston University, ScienceNo. No no no no no.
Sarah Palin apparently told a University of Alaska professor that humans and dinosaurs walked the earth at the same time, the LA Times reports.
According to college music teacher Philip Munger, the following scene went down soon after Palin was elected as Wasilla's mayor in 1997 (some lines paraphrased for continuity):
Munger: What are your religious views?
Palin: "Dinosaurs and humans walked the earth at the same time."
Munger: What about fossils and dino tracks dating back 65 million years?
Palin: I've seen pictures of human footprints inside the tracks.
And that's why we do background checks, ladies and gentlemen.
First of all, a note to PBS's Gwen Ifill, who will be moderating Thursday's VP debates: You have got to follow up on this. (Also, be sure to check our live blog for the debate.)
This sort of news is so bizarre that I can't even find an appropriate place to talk about paleontology as opposed to "Palintology," a clever pun I thought of that will unfortunately go to waste.
Ugh. I'm sorry, readers. I'm mailing this one in. I seriously can't think of anything to say about this. AOL News, don't pay me for this blog post.

Regardless of party affiliation, one must ask the question, "did Governor Palin say that?" If so, one has to ask where she got her information. It seems to fly in the face of present scientific information.

Shelia,
Sarah's theory could be correct. I can't confirm it because I've only been around since 1955 and I can assure you that the dinosaurs were gone by that time. Remember the 65 million thing is a theory also. Every theory that science has asserted has eventually been proven wrong - not a good record.
The 65 million time frame is based on a theory called carbon dating - based on the half-life of carbon isotopes.
That very theroy says that rocks formed by the last eruption of Mt St Helens are 3 million years old. That eruption occured in 1979 - I was here for that one.
So the carbon dating thing don't work so well - does it. Scientist don't want to talk about it. Science is something you never want to rely on -
but to give it a little support, there's just as much evidence against dinosaurs dying-off 65 MM yrs ago as there is supporting it.
The problem is our teachers chose not to compare and contrast. In other words they don't teach us how to think for ourselves.
It's something a minority of us has taught ourselves to do.
Good night and thank you for your comment

MIKEISRIGHT HASN'T A CLUE ABOUT CARBON DATING.PALIN AND THE DINOSAUR HAVE A GREAT DEAL IN COMMON,BUT MAINLY, THEIR BRAINS ARE THE SIZE OF A PEA AND THEY ARE BOTH COLD-BLOODED. CHECK IT OUT MIKE. LOTS OF BOOKS ON THE SUBJECT, MAINLY BY MISGUIDED SCIENTISTS.
MIKE WOULD BENEFIT FROM AN OBSERVATION ONE OF MY COLLEGE PROFESSORS MADE ABOUT A PARTICULARLY DENSE STUDENT..HE SAID "TAKE A LOOK AT CHARLES. HE LOOKS LIKE AN IDIOT, HE TALKS LIKE AN IDIOT, HE BEHAVES LIKE AN IDIOT AND HE THINKS LIKE AN IDIOT.BUT, DON'T BE DECEIVED...HE "IS" AN IDIOT."

Sarah Palin could be wrong, but can't be proven. This is what can be proven;
Body count. In the last six months 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago , 221 killed in Iraq .
US Senators Barack Obama & Dick Durbin, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Gov. Rod Blogojevich, House leader Mike Madigan, Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike), Mayor Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor Richard J. Daley).....the current leadership in Illinois .....all Democrats.
Thank you for the combat zone known as Chicago . Of course they're all blaming each other.
Can't blame Republicans, there aren't any in Chicago politics!
State pension fund $44 Billion in debt, worst in country. Cook County , IL (aka Chicago ) sales tax 10.25% highest in the USA . (Look 'em up if you want). Chicago school system one of the worst in country. This is the Chicago political culture that Senator BH Obama comes from in Illinois . And he's going to fix Washington politics? Obama has done nothing for Illinois... Don't vote for Obama... Don't drink the Kool-Aid...

OMG everyone...this is strictly hearsay. Where's the proof that she said this? Where's the video coverage? Surely they had video coverage way back in 1997. Heck WE had video coverage back in the late 1980s! This is just malicious propaganda spread by scared and jealous democrats. Period.

OK. If humans and dinosaurs coexisted, why have no fossilized human remains been found in the same strata, along with dino fossils. (?)

Kate, I'll tell you why. Human bones and dinosaur bones have different densities so when the flood gobbled up the earth thousands of years ago, certain species settled in different strata....hence where we get Darwin's so called Geologic Column that today's science continues to use as a guide despite the vast science available today to adjust his numbers. These not only separate humans and dinosaurs but how the rest of the dinosaurs were also sorted.

It's amazes me how religious fundamentalists christians are so afraid of any facts available that don't support the absolute truths they've been taught to believe in church.
If humans had been alive during the age of dinosaurs, people would have been food. Mere snacks.
Sara Palin will put her personally held, religious beliefs before the constitution if she believes it's what her God wants her to do. We don't need any more ignorant moralists thinking the bible is a ruling document of the United Sates like the bill of rights. I do not believe she is capable understanding that religious freedom promised by our constitution isn't written to exclusive protect fundamentalist christian sects. It's written to protect us from them or any religion imposing their personal faiths on us all as law. The evangelical practices of fundamentalists is incapatible with democratic freedom. Her shown inability to grasp even simple, provable, established facts as true, like the historical timelines of dinosaurs, because it does not match her religious cult education, how can she be anyone's leader? She believes God is going to kill the entire world in a huge final battle. We don't need her anywhere near power to launch missles in her quest to fight evil for Jesus.

To Matt Negrin and the LA Times reporter : Neither of you two noticed that Sarah Palin's answer to the question "What are your religious views?" seems to be the answer to a different question? Who is playing games here? Sarah Palin? I doubt it. The music teacher, Philip Munger? Highly likely. The anonymous LA Times reporter? Could be. Or our own Matt Negrin? Probably not. Does not posess the necessary skills to make stories up.

A couple of Sen Biden memorable moments
Biden is a gaffe machine. He ran for president 20 years ago but had to abandon his campaign when it was discovered that he had plagiarized speeches from a British politician, substituting in key details to make the story his own.
he mused about Illinois Sen. Obama: “I mean, you got the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy
that FDR once went on television to address the nation after the stock market crash of '29
Something is very wrong here. While most forgive the silly slip like "Barack America" or asking the wheel-chair bound to stand up, I think the Obama staff must have gone from amusement to embarrassment and now to serious concern whether Biden is up to the job.

If he can't get anything done in Congress, it's because of the damn Republicans. When the first bailout was rejected by the House, one Republican House member from Wisconsin commented that they were worried about losing their jobs. What does that tell you, quentin225? It tells me that the Republicans are more concerned for themselves than for us. Who is worried about our jobs? Obviously not the Republicans. And if you choose to vote for McCain, then you only have yourself to blame, no one else.

Well, Palin doesn't talk about herself because everything about her is shit. She has had two many children for this day and age. She prefers to give birth to a deformed child rather than abort him....we'll end up taking care of him. Her husband is a Communist who prefers to be OUT of the United States and she is a member of one of the most conservative churches in American...VERY dangerous churches.
