Are There Computers in McCain's 13 Cars?

We knew this would come out eventually.

Turns out John McCain and his rich wife own 13 cars -- which is about two for each house they own.

Barack Obama and his wife, on the other hand, own one: a 2008 Ford Escape hybrid.

The details emerged in a Newsweek story that is timed conveniently for Democrats seeking to paint the Arizona senator as "out of touch" with normal Americans. In late August, McCain was caught off guard in an interview with Politico and revealed that he didn't know how many houses he owns. (He has seven.)

The contrast between that and the Obamas' vehicle preference also highlights several environmental concerns.

But the other point here is that McCain touted his love for this country by proclaiming on Detroit radio, "I've bought American literally all my life, and I'm proud." The problem there is that to McCain, the word "literally" has a different definition.

Two of McCain's baker's dozen cars are foreign: a 2005 Volkswagen convertible, and a 2001 Honda sedan. The rest are made of 100 percent man: among them a half-ton Ford pickup, a new Wrangler and a GMC SUV.

The McCain campaign is probably hoping that the auto workers in Detroit will approve of those makes and models, although they may have trouble relating to the senator's wealth. Detroit is one of the poorest cities in the United States, with the lowest median income per household (around $34,000).

Cindy McCain, meanwhile, shares her net worth of more than $100 million with her Republican presidential nominee husband.

And in case you've forgotten, Michigan is a "swing state."
