The Critique on Palin Read Around the World

What was meant to be an e-mail sent to 30 or so friends and relatives became an Internet sensation. She never meant for this letter to reach a large audience, but before she knew it, her letter was circulating on blogs all over the Internet. She was also interviewed by NPR and The New York Times.

Wasilla resident Anne Kilkenney wrote this e-mail when people began asking her what she knew of McCain's virtually unknown Vice Presidential pick.

Kilkenney, who has known Palin since 1992, gave her assessment of the candidate based on observations as an acquaintance and as someone who "attended more City Council meetings during her administration than about 99 percent of the residents of the city."

She has been both congratulated and criticized for her observations. Some have called her "brave," others "a bitter 'ol small-town bitty," but either way you look at it, her letter has put another rift in voters' trust in McCain's choice.

Her letter looks at both positives and negatives of Palin, calling her "energetic and hardworking" but also questioning Palin's claim that she is fiscally conservative, as she "inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million."

She also points out the fact that Palin does not back basically any of her "beliefs" when it comes to legislation. Sure, she gave birth to a child with down syndrome, but that is just about all she has done to show her pro-life stance. She "declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life legislation." The letter also claims that Palin hid her pregnancy from her own children and parents as well as the people of Wasilla until seven months into it. Kind of strange.

Is Kilkenney just a bitter citizen of Wasilla? Maybe. But her letter is worth a read, especially for those who jumped onto the Palin bandwagon, no questions asked.
