Fox's Doctored Photos Are a Disgrace to Photoshop
Posted: Jul 3rd 2008 10:00AM
Filed under: Featured Stories, Boston University, News, MediaFox News yesterday altered two New York Times reporters' photos to make them look bad, and the only thing worse than that is how awful the images actually are.
Take a look for yourself, courtesy of the liberal-leaning Media Matters for America:

Yeah, it's a disgrace to journalism. And sure, we probably don't really expect a lot ethically from Fox News in the first place. But couldn't they have at least asked a graphics intern to do the hit job instead of a producer's 8-year-old kid who just learned how to use Microsoft Paint?
Here's the background: Times reporter Jacques Steinberg wrote a story about how Fox News' ratings aren't as secure as they once were as CNN and MSNBC raked in viewers for political coverage of the primary season.
In response, two so-called journalists at Fox News named Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade aired the hilariously and clearly doctored photos of Steinberg and his editor, Steven Reddicliffe, that elongate their faces and ears and yellow their teeth, among other clever alterations.
The Times culture editor, Sam Sifton, said the changed images were "disgusting." That's a pretty modest assessment of the worst Photoshop job I've seen since TIME maybe tried to make O.J. Simpson look blacker.
Or should we chalk this one up with the time Newsday edited these two star skaters together on the ice? Or how about John Kerry appearing with Jane Fonda in a photo that never happened?
If you're going to attack the Times, fine. But do it with credibility, and not with the spray-paint tool.

I don't think the photos are bad. They still look like the liberal, dark under dwellers that they are. Where's your sense of humor? Does being a liberal make you that miserable??

Just look what the New York Times does do everyone/ Please! Get a life! Also if you don't like your picture go do a do over. You do know what that mean don't you? What's the matter Liberalism getting to you. U can always come over to Fox where you get the truth. But if you want to stay with a paper that are fullof Liberals you can go to the Boston Globe. That's my neck of the neighborhood. We already know who the Globe is voting for. Thre Globe is all over him. It's make me sick. I cancelled the Globe once-gave another chance and now I'm cancelling it again. By the way I think that's a great picture.:)

They were trying to do the difficult task of making a liberal look less ugly. Maybe we need to realize certain thing can not be done no matter how hard you try and all the technology available today

Missy,
I'm going to stay out of the conversation about liberalism vs. conservatism. People are surely entitled to their political opinions, and that's what makes this such a great country. For the purpose of full disclosure, I am a liberal.
But, Missy, what I am most disturbed by is your closing remark, in which you suggest that if these Times reporters were not satisfied with their photographs, that they should perhaps take a new one. While I do not know whether or not they were actually satisfied with their photographs . . . you know what, that's irrelevant. What you and everyone else who comes to the defense of Fox News should be concerned with is the motivation behind doctoring those photos. What was the purpose? Why do anything to them? You know what, I'm sure those reporters were satisfied with their photographs, or else they wouldn't have made them available.
Missy, I am just really at a loss for words. Your comments, without a doubt, are the most ridiculous item of the day.

Fox isn't even a real network. The so-called "journalists" only work there because they couldn't get hired at any of the legitimate networks. Folks in the industry don't call it Faux Noise for nothing!.

I seem to remember a Newsweek cover of OJ Simpson which portrayed him as several shades blacker than he actually is -- why no outrage over that? Newsweek is notorious for manipulating its photo images to convey its own slant on the world. Talk about the pot calling the kettle.....

Did you even read the artile FOX responded to? Even the 'top stories' link in your by-line points to a page that features 4 of 6 stories that would be considered dem-friendly. The Times' story is biased against FOX to start.
I assume you had no trouble with the lies by ommission? The article states, 'FOX hosted no dem debates' which isn't an accurate depiction of the dems' fear of questions from a middle-to-right perspective and refusal to participate.
The Times and AOL both link to doctored AP photos, unconfirmed sources, and staged photo ops. The guy in the green helmet is a prime example. I'm sure you've heard of him.
So, the photos were doctored...little different than the 'halo' Barrack photo that's made the rounds. Try to discuss the content of the article. FOX held no dem debates because the DNC could care less about anyone who isn't a complete leftie.

Where is your sense of honesty? This is blatantly bad journalism, and that is never funny. Stop making it about being democrat or republican for a change, and let's all try to be Americans.

You know, I just bet they look different because when you use a photo and depending on the colors of each monitor or screen, people can be darker, lighter, softer, longer face. Also, maybe its because they are liberal...they were out hugging too many trees, and the earth shoes smacked them in the face- you think?

Unfortunately, Fox (Faux) News is still rated number one, which gives an indication of the lower-than-houseplant IQ of the "neo-cons" and other right wingnuts. Just like their hero, Duh-Bya, these morons have made up their minds. Don't disturb them with inconvenient things like facts, reason, logic, compassion, etc.
